(Chicago, IL) – U.S. Rep. Robin Kelly is receiving positive reviews from supporters and allied organizations following the first debate in the Democratic primary race for U.S. Senate, with backers saying her performance set her apart from the rest of the field.

During the debate, Kelly emphasized her experience in Congress and her record of advancing legislation, arguing that Illinois voters are looking for results rather than rhetoric.

“Illinois voters are tired of empty suits and broken promises,” Kelly said during the debate. “They don’t just want a senator who will fight — they want one who can deliver results for them.”

Kelly pointed to her past efforts taking on powerful interests, including her work on gun safety legislation and her role in organizing support among House Democrats for the impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. She said that experience would translate into effective leadership in the U.S. Senate, particularly on issues of affordability, accountability and immigration enforcement.

“I am the only candidate in this race with a proven track record taking on the wealthy and well-connected to deliver real change,” Kelly said. “In the Senate, I’ll keep fighting to put people over profits, make life more affordable and hold Donald Trump accountable.”

Supporters described Kelly’s debate performance as steady and substantive, noting her calm delivery and detailed responses grounded in legislative experience.

In a statement released after the debate, the Congressional Black Caucus praised Kelly’s performance and called her the standout candidate of the evening.

“Her answers were concise, grounded in real legislation, and rooted in years of experience delivering for Illinois,” the statement read. “Rep. Kelly has a proven track record of listening to constituents and fighting for their priorities in Washington. That’s the leadership Illinois needs in the Senate.”

The debate marked the first time voters were able to see the Democratic contenders share the stage in what is expected to be a closely watched primary. Kelly is seeking to build momentum by highlighting her congressional record and positioning herself as a candidate focused on translating policy goals into tangible outcomes.
